Tactics that still move reach
None of these are secrets and all of them are unevenly applied, which is why they still work. They are ordered roughly by how much they return for the time they cost.
- Comment on large accounts within the first hour
- A useful early comment on a post that goes on to travel puts you in front of tens of thousands of the right people. Highest return per minute on the platform.
- Reply to every comment in the first hour
- Replies are engagement signals and they extend the window in which the feed keeps testing your post on new audiences.
- Cut the first line you wrote
- Almost every draft opens with a sentence of throat clearing. Deleting it is a free reach increase, because the hook is what decides the click.
- Rewrite your best post two months later
- Most followers never saw it. A new angle on a proven idea outperforms a fresh idea most weeks.
- Put the link in the first comment
- External links in the post body reduce distribution because they send people off the platform. First comment costs you nothing.
- Turn on Creator mode
- It swaps Connect for Follow on your profile, and followers are uncapped where connections stop at 30,000.
- Post text before you post video
- Text and single image posts still reach further than video for most accounts under a few thousand followers.
- One idea per post
- A post that makes one point clearly gets shared. A post that makes three gets skimmed.
